 Mustard added that he’s seen a definite increase in his workload as a roaster and the company’s fulfillment department is also stepping up. 

“We’re busier,” he said. “I’m roasting bigger batches of coffee, so I’m busier. But for the people who are packing and shipping the coffee, it’s like Christmas every week. We might have 400 or 500 (shipments) a day, compared to 60 of 70 before (the pandemic).” 

There’s also been no hassle acquiring the raw materials for roasting Jittery Joe’s brands, which include Morning Ride, Terrapin Wake-and-Bake and House Blend, as well as offerings from spots like Ethiopia, Guatemala and Indonesia.  ANDIEZ Moose Female Face Poster

“We have no supply-line kinks,” said Mustard. “We’re lucky in the sense that we buy our coffee and set our contracts, and we’ve been doing this for so long we have relationships with particular farms. Each year we increase our standing order and it’s shipped to the ports and we have a warehouse full of green coffee. If we were buying what we call ‘spot,’ everybody else is picking from the same thing and some people had a little more trouble with that. We’re in a good spot.” 

Staff photographer Josh Jones recently visited Jittery Joe’s and received a demonstration on how to make the perfect cup of coffee at home and captured images utilizing various devices, including the French press, the Chemex drip coffee maker and the Aeropress coffee maker.  

“You’re at home during the pandemic and you can up your coffee game by picking a new way to brew coffee and learning it inside and out so you’re not intimidated by it,” said Mustard. “It’s important to remember that to get real quality coffee, you have to keep in mind three things – water, surface area of coffee and time. Those are the three main things to keep in mind.”
